Suicide First Aid Course
Who Is It For?
Ultimately this course is for anyone seeking a greater understanding of suicide. But who also wishes to develop the confidence to be able to identify someone thinking about suicide and intervene appropriately.
It is ideal for employees in people management, such as line managers and heads of year, for example.
Senior leaders, can also show leadership by joining the conversation around mental health and help the organisation be explicit about its purpose to address the stigma of suicide.
HR professionals and Wellbeing champions are ideal candidates to complete this course too.

Course Content
Course participants will:
Look at the stigma around suicide
Explore suicidal thoughts and their causes
Be better able to recognise suicidal behaviours and how to respond
Build their confidence to be able to support somebody considering suicide
Keep simple records following an accident at work
Pre-Training Requirement
No previous experience or training is required.
Format
Training can be either on-site*, or at a local training venue. The training is divided into 4 parts, each approximately 90 minutes long, across 1 day.
Teaching methods include:
Tutor facilitated discussion
Mini lectures
Group work
Audio visual presentations
Role play
There is no expectation for individuals to share personal experiences.

Accreditation & Assessment
The course is recognised as an International Accredited Unit of Learning by City & Guilds International. Participants can gain 6 NQF credit points at Level 4 by completing a workbook of tasks that are assessed against the learning outcomes
